How to Support the BIG3 Basketball League

May 12, 2024 — Jt Spratley

The BIG3 basketball league, under the leadership of CEO Ice Cube, is a fresh change from the flops, senseless foul calls, and rumors of scripted wins in the National Basketball Association (NBA) league. The 3-on-3 basketball league, with their "FIREBALL3" rule set, is fast-paced, and they play defense. For those serious about supporting the first modern Black-owned sports league in the USA, here are some ideas on how to do it.

Watch BIG3 Basketball Games

Watch BIG3 games live or recordings on their official YouTube channel. Views, clicks, and other engagement show as interest in product analytics. Product analytics help the Black-owned business negotiate deals and score partnerships. All of this helps BIG3 improve their product and reach more viewership, continuing the cycle.

Follow BIG3 on Social Media

Just like the BIG3 games, it helps to follow and engage with BIG3, and Ice Cube, on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

Buy BIG3 Apparel

Each of the dozen BIG3 basketball teams have unique logos that could spark interesting conversation in sports settings. The official BIG3 Shop has shirts, hats, socks, and sandals for each team. You'll have to look elsewhere for Black-owned shoe businesses.

Encourage Basketball Players to Join the BIG3 Family

This is an option for the hardcore basketball fans. Many well-known NBA veterans have ran on the BIG3 half-court:

  1. Nate Robinson
  2. Joe Johnson
  3. Amar’e Stoudemire from the Phoenix Suns
  4. Stephen Jackson from San Antonio Spurs
  5. Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley from the Miami Heat
  6. Tony Allen from the Memphis Grizzlies
  7. Many others

The most recent example of this is BIG3's offer to college basketball star Caitlyn Clark. I'd like to see a similar offer for Angel Reese along with a stats comparison, but that's a different and very biased talking point for another time. They reportedly made a similar offer to Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) champion Maya Moore after she left basketball during the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement peak for a justice reform case.

Create Content about the BIG3 Basketball League

Pro-Black and basketball-focused content creators, talk more about the league. Admittedly, this blog post is the second one I've in which I've mentioned the big 3-on-3 league. If you want ideas, check out The Fourth Man: A BIG3 Podcast.
