5 Places To Workout Other Than the Gym
First published on May 11, 2020
There are more ways to get a good workout without having to go to a weight room. It just takes a bit of creativity, determination, and honesty about whether you’re serious about improving your physical fitness.
I haven’t published a health and fitness blog since 2018, mainly because they don’t get views and I don’t have much new to say about the topic. I won’t guarantee I’ll start writing about fitness more often since I’m still focused on my music. That may change if my fitness blogs get more attention.
Park
The image above is the same as How I would Help You Lose Fat. Monkey bars help improve grip, bicep, lats / mid-back, and core strength. I do pull-ups and windshield wipers. I also get weird looks from kids sometimes.
Lessons learned: Go early, have a plan, and leave promptly.
Street / Roads / Nature in General
I like new scenery when I run. I don’t like the artificial speedometer of a treadmill. Therefore, I normally run with Team Red, White, and Blue (Team RWB) for new routes and comradery.
Also, stationary lunges (front, side, or reverse) get old. I prefer walking lunges on a street with a starting point and destination.
Being outdoors forces me to split my focus between exercise and my surrounding for situational awareness.
Sports
City recreational centers, or rec centers, have more than gyms. They have events and/or dedicated spaces for sports good for various age groups. Racquetball, pickleball, tennis, table tennis, and volleyball don’t require much physical movement or athletic skill to have fun.
Most I’ve seen had basketball courts. Some have rock climbing walls.
Ask your nearest rec centers if they have any events for sports you’d like. That’s the easiest way to find out. Give yourself a chance and contact the source directly.
I had a second of screen time in a rec center video doing back extensions.
Home / Empty Space
The most common excuses for not exercising:
- I don’t have time to go to the gym
- I don’t have money for a gym membership
Do you have a clear space in your home big enough for you to lay down? Yes? So you have enough space to exercise:
- Push-ups
- Planks
- Lunges
- Jumping lunges
- Squats
- Pistol squats
There are plenty calisthenic exercises you can do.
Bedroom
I know someone that constantly says sex is the best way for her to lose weight. Yes, she’s overweight at the time I’m writing this, but that’s not the point. There’s all types of ways to get a good workout in the sack.
Guys & Tops
- Engage your abs while on top from behind
- Use your hips when she goes cowgirl
Girls & Bottoms
- Use your legs when when you go cowgirl
- Hold on tight when you’re being held
